German Sallet Helmet

Description:- Suitable for foot or mounted combat, this two-tiered helmet was prized by both knights and men-at-arms. The Salade or English Sallet, possibly originated from France or Burgundy. It had been constructed with a tail to guard the rear of the top and neck. This version sits flush on a bevor which protects the chin and throat. The first is believed to be English and dates from about 1480. The Salades were a standard sight on the battlefields of the Wars of the Roses worn by knights also as other soldiers. Our replica features the moveable visor and a bevor with falling buff just like the original. Bevor are often fixed to 2 different heights.
